Situational Information Behavior Studies: My Self-Reflection on Flood-Related Information Seeking27/11/2013 My PDF handout below is one of three documents presented in the Library Science Department's annual seminar on "situational information behavior studies." This event was arranged on Monday 25th November 2013. We were honoured to have Associate Prof Dr Majid Shaheen -- a guest speaker from Nanyang Technological University Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information -- here on that day. What I shared with the audience was my lesson learned from the first year of launching my research project on Thai citizens' information seeking in a flood situation. Some cautions found in my research proposal were also remarked. I concluded my presentation by providing some directions to the next phase of my own research in this study area.

![]() To my students attending my Information Resource Organization class, here are two key tools that help you select and purchase reading media effectively for our social service activity on 14th December 2013. You have to choose four books or other study materials suitable for Matthayom 1-6 students at Nongsaeng Wiitayakom, Saraburi Province. To accomplish this activity, you need to familiarise yourself with the school library standard and guidelines on pupils' reading development issued by Bureau of Academic Affairs and Educational Standards. The first title provides the performance measures and internal audit criteria for annually evaluating operations of Thai school libraries and improving their information resource and service delivery. You should especially focus on Section 4 of this library standard that explains three specifications in connection with printed materials, audio-visual media, and use of information technology for managing information resources in the libraries. These details can give you general, but mandatory frameworks for acquisition as well as organization of library collections that are required by the executives and policy makers from Ministry of Education. . For the guidelines on pupils' reading habits development, this tool particularly offers practical suggestions about encouraging learners to enjoy reading and developing school libraries. It applies the Cabinet's national agenda for reading promotion to practices by officially launching the scheme '3Gs library' -- Good books and study materials, Good learning environments, and Good librarians and activities -- all over the school libraries. If you do not have enough time to skim it through the guidelines, just read Page 92-99 which explain book selection criterion, types of information resources the libraries should acquire, sources useful for book purchase consideration, and collection management procedures. Both ordinances mentioned above enable you to choose books efficiently when we start undertaking our voluntary work for Department of Library Science in December. Cheerio! |
